The Refugee Center and The Literary invite you to learn about our foreign-born neighbors at the third meeting of our immigrant and refugee centered book club series!
Did you know that The Refugee Center was founded in 1980 by Vietnamese refugees? These awesome folks, who had experienced first-hand the challenges of resettlement and acclimatization to US life and culture, wanted to offer support to other refugees arriving in the CU region. Since then, our services have expanded to supporting any immigrant from any country, but we continue to serve a large number of new arrivals from Vietnam.
The Refugees is a collection of short stories by Viet Thanh Nguyen, the Pulitzer Prize-winning author of The Sympathizer and The Committed. These short stories explore questions of immigration, love, identity, and family through the experiences of those who leave one country for another and find themselves living between two worlds.
